I remember the first time I met Geoff.
He arrived at my door in Memphis driving an old pickup truck with my daughter and a hound dog named Hound Dog in the back.
My wife and I had a “discussion” about accommodations. I lost. Hound Dog had to sleep in the garage and Geoff got to come in the house.
Not long after this encounter, Hound Dog ran away.
My daughter is still with Geoff.
Too bad.
That was a really nice dog.

I still think Geoff is a better father than Hound Dog would have been! And he probably makes better pizza.
ReplyDeleteBut he was a nice dog.

Our front door has always had a flaky latch. If not closed carefully, it can blow open. Alas, Hound Dog was able to amble out one day and never ambled back. Sad Geoff spent hours driving around town trying to find him. I always sort of felt that he felt I was responsible.
ReplyDeleteOh, dad, I'm so sorry! But you know I was irritated at the time and pretty bummed, it's true. But now that I have been a homeowner for 10 years and see how many projects get put on the back burner, it is all par for the course...!
